Role specification

The Non-Executive Director will join the Halls Group Board at a pivotal stage in its strategic evolution. The role is designed to bring independent oversight, support governance excellence, and offer constructive challenge to the Group's executive team and fellow directors. It is a high-impact appointment that spans both Board and committee engagement, with the opportunity to shape group-wide direction and contribute meaningfully at Pillar level.

The Non-Executive Director will:

  • Support the Board Chair and Group Managing Director in shaping and overseeing the Group’s long-term strategic objectives

  • Champion the Group’s commitment to responsible business practice, including stewardship, sustainability, and ethical governance

  • Provide objective advice on business performance, commercial strategy, risk oversight and capital allocation

  • Participate in one or more Pillar Governance Committees, working closely with the Pillar Managing Director as a trusted advisor and strategic sounding board

  • Serve on at least one Board-level committee (Finance & Risk, Nomination, or Remuneration) contributing to robust governance processes

  • Represent the Group to external stakeholders as appropriate, including at industry events, investor briefings, or partner forums

  • Support the stewardship governance framework within a values-led organisational culture

This is a strategic role requiring a blend of intellectual rigour, operational insight, and emotional intelligence. The NED will operate across governance layers and business units to drive coherence, excellence, and long-term value creation.


Person specification

Experience

  • Current or former CEO or senior executive of a medium to large organisation (£50m+ revenue) within family-owned, private or private equity-backed structure and ideally with an international footprint

  • Experience operating at Board level or as a NED in dynamic, multi-sector environments

  • Demonstrable operational leadership, with a clear understanding of the challenges and realities of running businesses day-to-day, including managing teams, delivering growth, and responding to market pressures

  • Operational, financial, or governance leadership in sectors aligned to Halls’ activities - such as fresh produce, food and agriculture, data analytics, financial services, property, or nutraceuticals - is strongly preferred

  • Proven track record in strategy development, business scaling, and performance oversight

  • Exposure to ESG-aligned business practices and cross-cultural leadership is advantageous
