PETE BACKWELL

Pete qualified as a Chartered Accountant at Deloitte and was a partner in the Tax Division before joining the Nedbank Group in 1991. Pete later headed up Nedbank's Corporate Banking Division before being appointed managing director of Retail and Wealth Management.

Pete joined Halls in 2004 as Executive Chairman, but stepped down from this role in 2006 to focus on developing the company's investments in the financial services and pharmaceutical industries. He was appointed managing director of the HL Hall & Sons Group in 2014, and retired from this role in 2022. Pete now serves as a non-executive director.
